Statistics recently provided by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) indicate that life expectancy in the UK has stopped improving for the first time since figures were first recorded in 1982.
Since this time, life expectancy has increased by approximately two months per year, every year, until the rate of improvement began to slow down in 2011.
According to the ONS, the life expectancy for women is 82.9 years and 79.2 years for men and this has stayed the same. Unfortunately, for men in Northern Ireland and both men and women in Scotland and Wales, life expectancy has decreased by more than a month.
