Family Law
Although something that many of us do not want to think about at the time, it is very important to protect assets when getting married, especially where a business interest is concerned.
A Pre-Nuptial agreement is a contract entered into before marriage which specifies ownership and also outlines how assets can be divided should the marriage later break down. It is ensures, that where expressly stated, separate property remains separate.
A Pre-Nuptial agreement can be drafted to protect against a future inheritance as well as on the flip side, offering financial security where one party to the marriage has a lesser earning capacity. A higher income can be protected as well as a spouse who potentially gives up their earning capacity when supporting a family.
These agreements are not set in stone once made and can be periodically altered and renewed for instance if a child is born into the marriage.
