A Decree Nisi is an order from the Court confirming that the Petitioner is entitled to a divorce. It confirms that the marriage has broken down irretrievably and that the reason for the divorce has been accepted. It does not complete the divorce and the marriage does not come to an end upon it being granted.
After a period of six weeks and one day have passed the Petitioner can make their application for Decree Absolute. The Decree Absolute legally ends the marriage and completes the divorce proceedings.
