Ashley Madison Divorce Rush?

Since the news broke that online married dating site Ashley Madison had been hacked and the personal details of its members stolen, the press has been full of speculation as to whether there would be a significant rise in divorces as a result.

Given the site’s strapline ‘Life is short. Have an affair’ this is perhaps understandable but is it accurate? Rachel Baker who heads the family team at George Green does not think so. Her view is that “the decision to end a marriage huge and for most, even those where there has been an affair, there is a lot to think about and consider and lots of questions to be answered.”

In addition to dealing with the emotional hurt and distress people inevitably worry about the practical and financial implications of ending their marriage such as who gets to stay in the house and who will pay the mortgage. For parents there is the added anxiety of the impact on children.

All of this can be incredibly overwhelming and mean that it is very difficult to make any decisions. Rachel believes that getting the right information is key “most clients I see initially are very confused and overwhelmed. There is now a substantial amount of information available online and most people know someone who has been through a divorce and is willing to share their experience. The difficulty is that every case is different because every family is unique and anyone thinking about ending a marriage needs advice tailored to their individual circumstances.”

George Green offer a fixed price advice meeting to enable anyone considering a divorce to obtain the detailed advice they need with the benefit of knowing that however long the meeting takes, there will be no charge beyond the fixed fee.
