The MOJ announced that the fee to issue a Divorce Petition is set to increase by 34% from £410 to £550.
The reality is that the vast majority of Divorces are undefended meaning that they are dealt with on paper without either party having to actually attend court.
How can such a significant increase be justified?
This is certainly not encouraging access to justice. Separation is already a very difficult time; the last thing people need is the added worry of how they can afford to fund their legal costs.
