Solicitors launch new equality training product

With discrimination claims likely to increase after April when the qualifying period for the right to bring an unfair dismissal rises to two years, leading Black Country law firm George Green LLP has introduced a new equality, diversity and inclusion training product for local employers.

Led by Senior Associate Julia Fitzsimmons, the training product will help to prevent claims happening in the first place.

Julia Fitzsimmons said “Many employers are unaware that they are liable for the actions of their employees. Their jokes or ill-judged comments could result in a discrimination claim and cost the employer thousands. There are things employers can do to both help their employees and protect their business as our training product shows. With sensible and practical policies, clear disciplinary procedures, effective training programmes for management and staff and proper handling of any grievance or disciplinary procedure after a complaint, a discrimination claim could be successfully defended”

Tim Lang, Partner and Head of the Employment Team commented “All prudent employers should ensure that their staff undergo equality training. We have been aware for a while now that discrimination claims are steadily increasing which is why we devised this training service. Those who decide to purchase the service will come away with an understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion issues, know how to challenge inappropriate behaviour and how to deal with any complaints should they arise. Employers will also be provided with full policies and procedures for incorporating into their existing employee handbook and certificates of attendance for all delegates.”
