Third Reading on Marriage and Civil Partnership (Minimum Age) Bill

Parliament is currently considering at what age a person should be legally allowed to consent to entering into marriage or a civil partnership.

The Marriage and Civil Partnership (Minimum Age) Bill seeks to raise the minimum age of consent to marriage or civil partnership from 16 to 18 years old.  In addition it seeks an amendment to the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 to create an offence of "causing" a person under the age of 18 to enter into a marriage or civil partnership.  The Bill is due to receive its third reading in the House of Lords today.

Whatever the problem, the Family Team at George Green is here to help.  We fully appreciate that taking that initial step of contacting a solicitor can be a daunting prospect, but most clients find that once they have taken initial advice they are much better equipped to consider their options.
