Teachers and NHS staff going through divorce may face delays to their financial settlements whilst public sector pensions are recalculated. The Treasury announced in March that there was a delay to their recalculation of “cash equivalent values” (CEVs). This is the value of pensions needed for divorce purposes.
For many couples, pensions may be the biggest asset that they have after their home and so being unaware of the value of these assets may mean negotiations have to be stalled.
The Treasury has suggested that relevant guidance was published at the end of April 2023 which will now allow recalculation of Teachers and NHS pensions to proceed. However, many are still finding that delays are being encountered when requesting the CEV.
