Aimee Stokes

Family Law Associate

Overview of Aimee’s practice

Aimee graduated from the University of Birmingham with the Sir Henry Barber prize; an award presented to the top five highest law graduates in the year.  Aimee also achieved the highest grade in her LPC master’s degree cohort and was awarded an academic prize for her outstanding contribution to the law school.

Aimee is an associate family law solicitor, providing specialist advice to individuals experiencing a relationship breakdown.  Aimee’s day to day practice involves providing advice in relation to the commencement of divorce proceedings, financial matters that stem from divorce, child arrangements between parents and obtaining protective injunctions.

Aimee also prepares pre-nuptial agreements and cohabitation agreements for unmarried couples that wish to regulate their financial affairs.

Aimee is a member of Resolution and sits as a committee member for the regional YRES West Midlands. Members of these organisations strive to resolve family law matters in an amicable and constructive way, believing that a non-confrontational approach (wherever possible) can often lead to better outcomes for separating families and their children.

Aimee represents her clients at court and is an experienced advocate. She also has positive relationships with local barrister chambers in cases whereby barrister representation is required.

Recent experience

In the past 12 months, Aimee’s highlights have included:

Representing a client through a lengthy Finding of Fact proceedings relating to their child.  Successfully clearing the client of allegations of causing non-accidental injury. After clearing the allegations, Aimee then achieved a shared care arrangement for the client.

Instructed within a High Court Appeal case McClean v McClean [2023] EWHC 1735 (Fam) alongside the Family Team’s head of department, representing the Appellant Husband to successfully appeal a Financial Remedy Order. The case dealt with voluminous paperwork with a Court bundle of over 4000 pages of evidence. The assets in the case involved multiple businesses and the judgement has been publicly reported.

Obtaining an Ex-Parte Non-Molestation Order within 24 hours following the client’s ex-partner entering her property without her consent.

Representing several clients through ongoing Financial Remedy Proceedings involving pension sharing orders, property adjustment orders, lump sum orders and business assets. Advising clients through all stages of the Court proceedings including the FDA, FDR and Final Hearing.

Advising clients through the process of Private FDR Hearings to resolve disputed financial matters (an alternative to Court) and formalising agreements reached in mediation and/or Private FDR Hearings by the drafting of financial consent orders.

And for something else …

Aimee frequently visits Edinburgh where her niece and nephew live.  Aimee enjoys spending time with her friends and regularly attends music concerts and festivals.
